The sonorous melodies of an acoustic guitar echo softly down Market Street. The source of the melodies comes from inside the Red Dawg Brewpub, a non-smoking, all ages restaurant and brewery in one.
The owners of the Brewpub, Susan and Dave Moorehead, expanded their home brew operation (the Onalaska Brewing Company) to the pub in December of 1996, to stay active in the tough micro brewery industry. The face of the Moorehead's red malamute dog, Kody, is the trademark of the Brewpub. The image of Kody is almost haunting in its ever-present form. His smile follows you as you enter the Brewpub and lingers with you through your stay. His paw prints lead you down the hall along the glass-encased brewery.
Kody's tongue invites you into the Red Dawg Brewpub. Inside, in the front of the Brewpub, old fermenters and kegs are on display, and hops are painted on the wall above the entry. There is a small stage for live music with two chairs where you can sit and read. Other seating is available at the bar and the many tables. The wall opposite the bar is decorated with old photos and nostalgic decorations relating to the beer industry. There is a shelf along the wall holding a variety of interesting beer bottles that Dave Moorehead collected during his days with the railroad. A bright red, 1942 Harley Davidson motorcycle is displayed in the back of the Brewpub.
Despite the fact that the Red Dawg BrewpubÕs main focus is its home-crafted beer, this is still an establishment that offers a lot to people under the age of 21. The menu has a unique variety of sandwiches, appetizers, a build your own pizza selection, espresso, soft drinks, and many delicious homemade desserts. They also sell their own homemade rootbeer which is far better than rootbeer in a can. The Brewpub also offers to minors another option (besides the Matrix) for hearing live music in Chehalis. The live music at the Brewpub is usually in the blues venue. Students can get a dollar off of the cover charge if their ASB card is presented. There is also open mike on Wednesdays at 6 PM and Short Story Night, where at least two short stories are read on Tuesdays at 6 PM.
The Red Dawg Brewpub is just a great place for conversation. |
