Girls' Soccer
The girls' varsity soccer team kicked off the new season with eleven returning varsity players and but only four starters. Coach Tim Touhey and the players alike say the lack of varsity experience will be a weakness this year. That does not damper the team's spirits. "We have a great attitude among the team. We also have strength and speed," said Touhey. Next home game: October 14.
Cross Country
Cross country is fortunate to have a string of strong leaders this year. The top three runners on the boys' team consist of Chris Roewe, Derik Jolliff, and Erik Anderson, also known as the "Three Musketeers." Stephanie Young is the leading lady. Head Coach Don Lakin could not say enough good things about the team. All and all, he feels there is a positive outlook. He mentioned the great work ethic, and turn out. Next home meet: October 4.
Girls' Swim Team
Inspite of Chehalis and Centralia swim teams being combined, rivalry is put aside as both schools' swim into a new season. "There is no tension between the Centralia swimmers and us. We're all teammates," said Liz Isaacson, sophomore.
Chehalis stand-outs are Michelle Edwards and Tessa Mount. Isaacson, Aleta Carlo, Jayne Fredrickson, Shannon Zengal, and Rebekah Capen are also Chehalis swimmers. Their spirit and will are noticeable strengths, but they do have some drawbacks. "Our unwillingness to practice and our love for junk food are definitely weaknesses," Isaacson said. Next home meet: October 6.
Boys' Golf
The boys' golf team has been described as "very strong, capable, and consistent" by coach Bruce Thompson. The spectators agree."Not very many people watch golf, but I do, and I think the guys are doing really well," freshman Brian Silcox said. Out of twenty male golfers, Andrew Hunziker and Sam McCullough are the top two by their averages. Next home match: October 9.
Girls' Tennis
The tennis team has two amazing stand-outs: last year's State Champs; Andrea Nelson and Heather Lane. Nelson and Lane are not the only positive contributers of the season. The team also has "great depth and a positive attitude," according to Coach Jack State.
But, one part of their game needs improvement "As a team, our doubles need to get better," State said. Next home match: October 14.
Volleyball
Seniors make up most of the varsity volleyball team this year, and are showing great leadership. Heather Bertels, junior, also has shown leadership and improvement. Coach Heidi Fagerness mentioned one weakness,"We need to act on what we know." Next home game: October 9.
