There will be a dance tonight from 9 - 12 in the commons, sponsored by the cheerleaders. It will follow the football game with Aberdeen.
There will be no school on Friday, October 10 due to a state professional day.
This year, two clubs have new advisors. Safety Club is now advised by Mr. Schultz and NHS is now advised by Mr. Schaefer.
FBLA members will be attending a conference on Tuesday, October 14 in Vancouver. This conference gives members a chance to meet other members from around the area and it prepares them for the spring and state conference held later in the year.
Oktoberfest, sponsored by ASB, will be held again this year on Saturday, October 18. Last year, there were many bands to listen to and many booths to visit. "Last year's was okay, but this year's is going to be a lot better," said Sherryl Ketchum, ASB Treasurer.
The Sadie Hawkins dance, sponsored by the class of 1998, will take place after Oktoberfest from 9 to 12 in the commons. The cost of tickets will be $10 for a couple and $7 for a single and will be sold during both lunches. Pictures will be taken by Horizon photography and the DJ will be from Point Blank Sound. "This year's theme is Little Abner and we're going to work really hard to bring the story out with all the hay and the whole hick theme," said Margo Snow, senior class President and one of the coordinators of Sadie Hawkins.
This year, W. F. West is home to Þve exchange students. Yuicihi Hashimito and Eri Matsumoto are both seniors from Japan. Hashimito is staying with Bobby and Lola Austin while Matsumoto is staying with the family of Amirah Parker. Annika Larsen is from Denmark and is a senior. She is staying with the family of Christine Kerr. Damjan Mitev is from Macedonia, is a senior, and is staying with Gordon and Toni Devore. Stefan Speck is from Germany, is a sophomore, and is staying with Brandi Overbay.
The music department is taking 100 students to see Show Boat on Wednesday, October 22 at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. The students will view a Ôbehind the scenes' video and then after the musical they will have a question and answer session with selected members of the cast and crew.
The 1997-'98 freshmen class has selected their ofÞcers for the year. The ofÞcers elected are: Devora Wright, President; Cheryl Thompson, Vice President; Lauren Smith, Secretary; Tiffany Evans, Treasurer; and Kyle State, Sgt. at Arms. The four senators are Ryan Zepp, Melanie Jackins, Jordan Rinta, and Jesse Papineau. The new President is very excited and is looking foward to a great year. "I just want people to kow that they can come talk to me when they need to", said Wright.
A new policy established this week will forbid students from being in the parking lot between or during classes. This policy was started to eliminate: damage done to cars, theft from cars, use of illegal substances stored or used in cars, and tardies caused by students going off campus to smoke. This policy became effective on Monday, September 29.
On October 10, 11, and 12, ASB representatives from W.F. West will attend the Washington Association of Student Councils conference in Everett. |
