Real heroes don't wear tights

dot.gif - 0.0 K In today's society, we are constantly searching for real life heroes. Sure, Superman and Wonderwoman are good heroes, but who can we realistically look to?Often our heroes are sports stars and rock artists. Should we look up to these multimillion dollar "heroes?" heroes.jpg - 7.8 K

dot.gif - 0.0 K How can you look up to a money hoarding athlete who could care less what the rest of his life will be like. What kind of goals have they set and accomplished? Well they did make it to practice today, I guess that is noteworthy. Or maybe one of their goals was to make it into the big leagues. How much did they have to do to achieve that? They went to practice because they had to, and then someone else told them they could play. Very few sports stars have looked ahead to their life after their sport. How many have made plans beyond spending their money on themselves? Rock stars are the same way. They claim that they are so happy that you listen to their music. Well you just paid them $16 to do something they like to do, of course they are pleased.

dot.gif - 0.0 K Maybe we should look to someone who has actually accomplished something besides taking advantage of your want for entertainment. We should look to those who have set their goals and achieved them through their own efforts. We should reevaluate our heroes, and perhaps find heroes that have accomplished something.

dot.gif - 0.0 K For those of us who aren't talented enough to make it in the big time. (News flash: that is most of us) We must look to someone who has chosen a career and excelled in it. Many people think that our heroes should be people that everyone knows. We need to look towards people in our community and school who have done something noteworthy. An example would be a man like Mr. Lakin. He toured much of the world as a cross country runner. He set his goals and accomplished them.

dot.gif - 0.0 K I think we should reassess our heroes, and perhaps choose someone who knows how to set goals and accomplish them.
