A whole latte drinking'

Review by Brenda Tausch

The fresh aroma of espresso brewing, the sound of milk being steamed, or the blender furiously grinding...ah espresso stands. Five years ago it wouldn't have been possible to write a review of espresso stands because there was a lack of them in Chehalis. Today, the C&G offers our review of Chehalis' espresso stands.

Market Street Espresso
1249 S. Market Blvd (By the B.P. and across from Safeway)
740-9414
Weekdays 6:00-7:00, Fridays 6:00-7:30, Saturdays 6:30-7:30, Sundays 8:00-6:00

Even when you are behind two cars waiting for a latte, trying to get to school on time, this place is speedier then the cars rushing in and out of the parking lot. But, when you aren't in a hurry, want to sit down, and enjoy your latte you better find somewhere else to go sit because there is no seating area. Sometimes the lattes are too sweet but to compensate for it the espresso is good, as is the service. Occasionaly they offer rice milk. Also, it is the most convenient to go here because of its proximity to W.F. West. It is easy to get in and out of, except when there are a lot of cars at the gas station.

Chamber Way Espresso
500 N. National (Isn't it obvious where it is? If it's not then look at the title.)
748-6716
5:30-7:30 Daily

Although the lattes are a little too sweet the overall impression/taste left me feeling satisfied. The espresso seemed to be of good quality. There is no alternative to milk, no discount if you provide your own cup, and no seating places. This place is sort of easy to get in and out of, but you have to swing really wide to get in line with the window. The service is O.K.

Via Mercato Espresso
290 W Main St. (Across from the courthouse and kitty-corner from the jail, posibbly for criminals who need a little pick-me-up)
740-0720
Weekdays, Saturdays 7:00-2:00

This is the place to go if you are hungry and yearning for a latte, because the food and the lattes are made excellent. The espresso is good and strong but sometimes the lattes are too sweet. The service is good except when they are rushed--they aren't as friendly. It is tight getting in and out of this stand when you have a big vehicle. They do have a nice seating area. There can be a back up at lunch and from about 4:00-5:00 because it is close to the courthouse.

Finer Ground Espresso
Next to McDonalds
no phone
Weekdays 6:00-7:00, Saturdays 7:00-6:00, Sundays 8:00-2:00

If you like sweet lattes then you should frequent this stand. The service is friendly. There is no alternative to milk, no discount if you provide your own cup, and no seating places. It is easy to get in and out of.

Simply Espresso
272 N. Market
Across from Brown's Mortuary and kitty-corner from Westminster Presbyterian Church
748-8335
Mon-Fri 6:30 am to 6:00 pm
Sat 7:30 am to 2:00 pm

If you have a gold card and a yearning for two lattes then you should stop by this place because they are the only stand in Chehalis which honors the gold card discount. The lattes are good because they have tons and tons of foam, they aren't too sweet, and the espresso is strong. The only problem is that, in the iced drinks, the espresso can be bitter because it is made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. This stand does offer rice milk as an alternative to cow's milk. They also offer Ghirardelli chocolate mochas as opposed to the normal Herseys.
