On Sunday, February 16, juniors Trevor Wheeler, Chris John, John McCroskey, and Tim Mitchell, and seniors Tyson Apperson, Blair Chintella, and Jeff McCroskey, along with the rest of the NCA soccer team, competed in a state semi-Þnals match-up at Somamish High School. The team started off on the right foot, scoring their Þrst goal Þve mintues into the game. Shortly after, their opponents, FC Fusion, answered back with two goals, ending the Þrst half 2-1. NCA came out hard again in the second half with John McCroskey scoring an unassisted goal to tie the game at 2-2. NCA dominated the rest of the second half, but despite their several attempts, could not put the ball in the net. The two teams remained tied through both overtime halves, sending them into a shoot-out. The shoot-out came down to the last two of Þve shooters, when the Fusion keeper made a diving save, putting an end to the seemingless endless game. NCA Þnished third in state, the highest they have ever Þnished in a statewide competition.
The girl's j.v. basketball team ended the season with an upsetting loss to their cross-town rivals, Centralia. Sophomore Alayna Blankenship lead the team with eight points, four rebounds, and three steals. Following close behind Blankenship was sophomore Natalie Roe, a swinger on varsity. Roe had six points and Þve rebounds.
The freshmen girl's basketball team ended the season with an 0-5 record. "We had great improvement over the course of our seaon." said freshman coach, Marci Beck. "We played Tumwater the second time in our season and had a five point loss, overcoming a 36 point loss our Þrst showing with them." Samantha Mitchell was one of the top scorers for the season and Sara Wilson was named Most Improved by her coach.
The j.v. wrestlers ended their season on January 29. Top wrestlers on j.v. for the year were Brad Gowing (wrestling at 101) with a 15-2 record, Ramon Cornel (wrestling at 141) with a 16-1 record, and Heath Flake (wrestling at 275) with a 10-1 record. Flake made it to state by placing higher than a varsity wrestler at regionals, but lost both his matches at the dome.
