The challenge, the sense of accomplishment, the material gain, and the power over authority. There are many reasons why people steal. While the phenomenon of theft is not new, there are many students at W.F. West who are becoming fed up with thieves.
Many students feel that people steal for the challenge it presents and the risk involved in getting away with it. "People who steal things do it for the challenge, but usually they have the money to pay for it," said junior Desi Fisher.
Others feel that theft is a result of boredom. "Sometimes people steal just because they have nothing better to do," said sophomore Amanda Brumfield

Some people don't believe that there is a problem here at W. F. West while others feel that it is a major problem. "I've had a hat, a watch, a wallet, a jacket, and 80 dollars stolen from me at this school," said Senior Russ Page.
According to the administrators, not many cases of theft are actually reported to the office. "Theft isn't usually reported to the office, ordinarily the teacher of that class or the coach takes care of the problem," said Don Conway, W. F. West Athletic Director.
James Colter is one of the disbelievers of the existence of a problem concerning theft here. "Everybody is tempted to steal, but few take the challenge seriously, especially in this school," Colter said.
What can be done to stop the problem? "You can't solve the problem because you can't change the bad habits," said Page.
A few even think that it's easy to steal here. "Stealing at this school is easy because no one is expecting to have anything stolen," said an anonymous person. "You can't stop what you don't expect."
