Mr. Sports Guy

the sports dilemma

To play or not to play? That is the question.

The decision whether or not to play sports is one that goes through the minds of many of today's confused youths. I have gone through this same dilemma and regret some of my choices. For this, I must encourage all young athletes to continue playing sports.

Sports are not about success and failure; too many athletes play to win. The emphasis should not be on the mere aspect of winning because an athlete must learn how to deal with both the positives and negatives that come with each sport.

If an athlete has some success in their beginning years of high school and they feel they can contribute to their sport their senior year, stick with it; it's worth everything you have to do to get there.

I've seen how seniors celebrate their last year of sports and I never really understood how much this means until I saw my friends, whom I've played with all my life, playing, crying, and most important of all, enjoying.

powder puff breaks out

The annual powder puff football and after shave volleyball game was a disaster. Neither game went as planned.

The senior and sophomore girls got in a bar-room like brawl after the second game. It was brutal. One girl had a bloody lip and others were crying. They were still fuming after the game. It's amazing how serious the girls took the game. I'd say they got a little too wrapped up in the competetive spirit.

As for after shave volleyball, the championship game between the senior and junior guys was cut off at 7:30 because of the start of the girls game. Big deal if the girls play while the guys finish up. The administration killed the competetive spirit of this event. The juniors were awarded the game just because they were ahead at 7:30.
