As awed faces look up in wonder, something mysterious emerges though a veil of sparkling lights and clouds of smoke. On December 13th, 14th, and 15th, West Theatre Company will perform "Cinderella" as a charity children's show at W.F. West.

The show comes as somewhat of a surprise to the drama club, which until recently had no leadership. "One of the students came to me and sat down with me and asked me if I would do it [supervise the drama club] because they heard from another teacher that I had a drama degree. I went home and talked to my wife. It wasn't a hard decision because I love the theatre and I was happy to do it," said director and new West Theatre Company Adivser Brian Adams.
"We weren't going to do it [the show] because of time constraints, and when I mentioned it to the students they were disappointed. I thought about it for awhile and proposed doing a short children's show," said Adams, who by day is a counselor at W.F. West.
Many students are pleased by the return of the West Theatre Company. "I think it is good that we have a drama program again so that people can express their artistic nature, even if they have none," said senior Joey Grant.
As it is the holiday season, the West Theatre Company decided that the show's proceeds will go to charity. "We would like to start a tradition around Christmas to do a charity kids' show," said Adams. The cast also feels good about doing a charity show. "It's refreshing to do a children's play, and I feel good about it because it is for charity," said Grant.
With a large turnout for auditions, Adams had some tough decisions to make. "Casting was pretty tough, 43 people auditioned for 19 parts, so there was a lot of disappointment. I really appreciated the lack of egos of those who didn't get casted, many even asked how they could help," said Adams.
The cast, both diverse in age and acting ability, is excited about performing. "It should be pretty fun because it is my first time ever acting," said junior Adam Cleaveland.
"I am extremely happy with it, [the role of Cinderella] I think it's a great part," said freshman Breanna Langford. "There is a good mixture of all classes and a good array of talent from all grades," said Adams.
The story is the typical tale of "Cinderella" with a little twist. "It is the traditional theme, but it is a little more humorous and Cinderella has a little more attitude," said Adams.
The cast is lead by junior Adam Cleaveland as Prince Charming, freshman Breanna Langford as Cinderella, junior Jessica Walls as the Fairy Godmother, and senior Joey Grant as the Evil Stepmother.
Tickets can be purchased at the W.F. West ASB office and at Book ÔN Brush. The price will be one dollar and a donation of one can of food. If anyone is interested in helping out, see Brian Adams in the counseling center.
