I am writing this on behalf of both Annie McNeice and Jessica Perkins. As you know, they died as a result of a car accident on Bishop road March 31.
I have heard many people say that they did not know Annie or Jessica. Many of these people have an "I don't care, I didn't know them" attitude. Now I can't make anyone grieve for these two girls if you didn't know them. The fact is however, and this is my point; two young teenagers lost their life.
Let me say that I am not in any way trying to make the death of Nikole Putman any less tragic. It was a shocking blow to many in the school, students, faculty, coaches and parents. She was a very well known, well liked, and a much loved person. Many people attended her memorial service. So many in fact, that it was standing room only. The majority of those attending were students of W.F. West. On the other hand, with Annie and Jessica's there were only about ten or fifteen students. The majority were from their church.
It seems to me that at W.F. West you have to be popular to be mourned. The point is, Annie and Jessica were both someone's daughter, someone's sister, someone's niece and someone's friend. It should not however, matter how many friends [they had.] The point is, they died a tragic death. Annie and Jessica both suffered before they died.
I really think the attitude that a lot of students have is wrong. We shouldn't have the attitude that we don't care because we didn't know them. We should have the attitude that someone's daughter and friend was killed and have some respect for them.
Chances are, there is probably one person in each of your classes that was friends with one of them.
