In spite of the long practices and uncooperative weather, the JV girls' golf team spirits have remained high. "There's a lot of potential on the team. I'm really excited about playing and learning from my team mates", said Amanda Jennings, one of only two freshman on the team. The girls' next match is April 20 against Centralia, Camas, and Washougal at the Newaukum Golf Course at 4:00 p.m.
This year a lot of freshman turned out for the track team. "Freshman look good this year, lots of potential", said Coach Thad O'Dell. O'Dell recommended a few out of the many to watch: Becky Adams, "looks good going over the 100 meter hurdles"; Ryan Zepp, "is working really hard, [and] has potential as a sprinter"; and Marc Duncan is "putting in some miles, [and] a potential in distance." Next meet is tomorrow, Tuesday April 14 against Olympia and R. A. Long at R. A. Long beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Currently, the boys' baseball c-team has only played three games and is 2-1. Junior Perry Gill was hitting all the way back to the warning track, and was making diving catches in the outfield during a double header against Napavine on March 28 according to sophomore and teammate Erik Olson. "Everybody is showing good things at the the start of the season. We have a bunch of funny people and a bunch of take-chargers. It's a great team," said Olson. The guys will be back in action tomorrow against Mark Morris starting at 4:30 p.m.
JV boys' soccer is currently 2-1 in the season. "Andy Olson is a freshman who is doing good right now and will be doing good later," said teammate Jon Duncan, a sophomore. Duncan also credits the team for their improvement. " We're starting to work better as a team and we'll only get better as the year goes on," said Duncan. Next game is tonight against Capital at 5:00 p.m. in the stadium.
JV boys' tennis plays again tomorrow at home against Olympia at 4:00 p.m. Right now they have a record of 2-2, with good playing from junior Bob Gorski. "He's playing smart and he's thinking. He's placing the ball and winning lots of points which win games," said Coach Denise Boulac.
