DECA State Competition
Eight DECA members are going to a state competition in Bellevue during March 5-7. Students who are participating are Derek Jolliff, Heather Lane, Karen Muller, Randi Jo Neal, Brian Raymor, Marc Sobolesky, Erin Taylor, and Jake Thompson. They will be participating in events ranging from web page design, hospitality services, and multi-media presentation.
State Forensics
Expository speakers sophomore Brandy Mauel and senior Amirah Parker will be attending the state competition for Forensics. The competition will be held on March 7, at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.
Annual Blood Drive
The Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on March 11 in the W.F. West commons. Eligible W.F. West students will be able to give blood from 9:00am - 2:00pm. Blood Drive coordinator senior Jeanie Jones said, "Having the Blood Drive at school is very important because it gives many students the opportunity to get involved."
W.F. West Choirs Perform
W.F. West's Treble Choir, Westsingers, and Mixed Choir will perform at the Medley In March concert at 7:30pm on March 12. Junior Lindsay Oldroyd said, "We're singing some great songs, and it should be a great concert." One week later, on March 19, the Mixed Choir will spend the day at North Thurston High School at a choir contest.
St. Patrick's Day
March 17 is St. Patrick's Day. If you hate to be pinched, wear green. If you love to be pinched, do not wear any green.
State Professional Day
Due to the fact that Chehalis received snow this year and school was canceled, there will be school on March 20, which was supposed to be no school for State Professional Day.
Tolo
National Honor Society will be putting on Tolo again this year. It will be held from 9:00pm - 12:00am March 21. Tolo is a semi-formal dance, and this year's theme is "Dreams of Italy." Prices are $5/single and $10/couple. Tolo co-chair junior Mindy Blair said, "Tolo is going to be a different experience this year. The Tolo committee has been working a long time and we hope everyone has a great time."
FBLA McTakeover
FBLA will be taking over McDonalds from 4:30pm - 7:30pm on March 24. FBLA vice-president Jenica Spogen said, "We hope a lot of people show up so we can raise a lot of money."
Band Contest
On March 25, the award-winning W.F. West Symphonic Band and Concert Band will travel to Shelton High School for the annual band contest. Band director Dan Judd said, "We're excited about band contest. It gives us the opportunity to see how we measure up."
Race for Books
The W.F. West Key Club is hosting the Bookin' For Literacy race on March 28. Money raised will buy books for the W.F. West and Chehalis Middle School libraries. The race starts at 7:30am from Stan Hedwall Park.
Band Concert
There will be a band concert March 30, featuring the W.F. West Symphonic Band and Concert Band. The concert will be held in the commons and begin at 7:30pm.
