As the light grows dark and the previews begin to roll, so begins your journey through the tragic maiden voyage of the R. M. S. Titanic. Hang on tight because it will be quite a ride.
For the next three and a half hours, you are taken back into time to experience the first and only voyage of the so-called "unsinkable ship". It should be seen by all and soon. It has a historical link to each and every one of us. You experience James Cameron's epic adventure that is a love story, a tragedy, and even a history lesson all in one. And for the next few hours, time means nothing.
Titanic is a definite must see. It has something for everyone and can definitely hold its own against the toughest critics.
It tells the love story of two people from different backgrounds set against the tragic sinking of the boat. Even though the end result may be known, no one else could have made a movie as touching and thought provoking as this one. It holds interest and viewers' hearts the whole way through.
The love story of Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) is told in an original and creative way. It was a definite surprise in the beginning to find that the story was told by a little old lady who knew more about that day than anyone else.
Even though the love story is the main theme, the way history is explored in this makes it more real than any text book ever could. The realization that so many people died and most died innocently, shows the cruelty of the past and how people were split into whether they lived or died by how much money they had and what social class they were in. That was one thing they never taught you in history.
It has a powerful story line that was written very well. In addition to the good writing, the actors and their talents make it come alive. The combination of the two makes a movie that is hard to walk away from and not feel something from it later.
If none of this grabs your attention, you should definitely see it for the special effects. It's amazing that they could recreate a ship that looks a lot like the Titanic did then and be able to sink it. The water scenes are also pretty amazing to watch.
The movie is definitely a good one. In the words of other movie reviewers, I give this movie "two-thumbs up"!
