1997: Big budget movies, touching scripts, and stunning acting. We laughed, we cried, we felt warm inside, and we sat behind a really big fat guy who wouldn't stop talking even after we asked him politely. All in all, 1997 was a great year for movie-goers, and 1998 will prove to be even better. Yet, with the hundreds of new movies coming out every season, it's getting harder and harder to decide which movie to go see. Therefore, in order to enhance your movie going experience, we have taken the time to preview many of the movies which will be showing this next year, so that you may decide for yourself.
Home Alone 4/Speed 3
The holiday comedy continues as The Olson Twins fight off an over-weight and over-drugged computer hacker, Lenny (McCauly Culkin), who is set on taking over the cruise ship on which the movie takes place. Look forward to seeing surprise appearances by Keanu Reeves as "Bud, the waiter", and Joe Pesci as the mob boss who runs the ship's casino and who is eaten by the monster lurking in the baggage department. The movie climaxes as Lenny succeeds in steering the ship into a giant iceberg and the Olson twins finally die for once. A must for all you masochistic fans of "Full House".
The Sixth Element
Life's not so "perfect" anymore for Leilu (Milla Jovovich). After marrying Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis), she gives birth to the "sixth" element, a half-human boy named Bob (Adam Sandler). The "savior of life" quickly becomes bored with life and takes to the bottle, and eventually decides to go on a cruise through the Atlantic on a large ship. The ship hits an iceberg and Bob is thrown overboard. Just when it looks like Bob will be able to swim to freedom he cuts his neck on a huge diamond which is floating in the sea.
Romy and Michelle's Second High School Reunion
Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino are back in this sequel to the runaway hit film of 1997. It's ten years later, and their graduating class is having yet another reunion and this time it takes place on a large cruise boat in the Atlantic. Romy and Michelle try to impress their old high school friends by claiming to have invented "photosynthesis", a complicated system through which plants produce their own food from sunlight. Just as the two are about to receive the "most improved since high school" award they end up dying when the ship unexpectedly runs into an iceberg.
Titanic Part II
It's the sequel to one of the greatest movies ever made. This movie picks up right where the original left off. In the opening scene we follow Leonardo Dicaprio's body as it sinks to the bottom of the ocean floor. The next two hours are spent watching the bodies of the crew and passengers decompose in time frame photography as we are finally brought up to modern times. A very interesting look at the decomposing process 2,000 leagues under the sea. At the end we are still left guessing "what happened to that big diamond?". The script for "Titanic: The Resurrection" is already underway.
