Due to Presidents' day there will be no school on February 16.
All-State Music Conferences
Pat Luethe, David Mauel, Lindsay Oldroyd, Lindsay Beckman, Christina Dempsey, and Erin Sweeney will be part of the All-State choir. Andy Judd on trombone and Erik Anderson on percussion will be part of the All-State Band. Also, Cary Walsh will be a member of the All-State Orchestra. The groups will be made up of outstanding music students from all over the state. The performance will be on February 15 at 1:30 at the Yakima Sun dome. The W.F. West Symphonic band will also be in attendance as part of a clinic on sight reading.
Trash and Treasure
The 18th annual Music Boosters' Trash and Treasure sale will be on Saturday February 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday March 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Blue Pavillion at the S.W. Washington Fairgrounds.
W.F. West Band Night
W.F. West Band Night is March 3. Both the Symphonic band and the Concert band will be performing starting at 7:30 in the commons.
Baby Swart
Math teacher Dora Swart gave birth to a baby girl on December 31. The Swarts named their new daughter RuthAnn Lanell. RuthAnn is their second daughter and was born at 4:48 AM and weighed 9 pounds. "She [Swart] is at home on maternity leave enjoying spending time with RuthAnn." said Dr. Linda Smith. Swart will not be returning to school this year.
Earth Day
Earth day is March 2 so environmentalists urge you to "do something earthy." Spanish teacher Brett Ellingson, who manages the W.F. West recycling program said, "Earthday is a day in which I reflect and evaluate my own personal effort in making this place (earth) a better place for us and future generations to live."
FBLA
The following students will be attending an FBLA conference on February 20. Jenny Bell, Amanda Carss, Raquel Carss, Carey Chapin, Van Chau, Steph Davidson, Desi Fisher, Travis Frazier, Angela French, Jason Gardin, Mike Goodwillie, Meagan Hillier, David Langehennig, Melissa Lykken, Brandy Mauel, Karen Muller, Randi Jo Neal, Chian Lee Nicholson, Mike Oechsner, Jesse Papineau, Amirah Parker, Katie Roewe, Jenica Spogen, Jill Stahl, Bobbie Jo Sweet, Erin Taylor, and Caleb White . Junior Mike Oechsner, an active member of FBLA, will be running for State vice-president at the conference.
