Girls' Tennis:
The tennis team had a good year in spite of "the rainy and windy weather [that] made it difficult to get practice time in and games on schedule," according to senior Lindsay Beckman. Juniors Jody Miller and Danielle Klovdahl ended the season with a trip to districts.
Seniors Heather Lane and Andrea Nelson are continuing on to state in May for the second time around. "We don't know our seeding overall, but we know we are the number one seed in our district," said Lane.
Volleyball:
Although varsity had a disappointing year, the players and coaches remained optimistic. Coach Heidi Fagerness said, "The Rivers League is a really tough league; it was another good building year."
Senior Jamie Plancich said, "Next year [juniors] Heather Bertels, Kim Plancich, and Andrea Teeter will have the right positions to begin with and they'll be strong. It was a tough year for seniors."
JV volleyball had a final record of four wins and six losses. The c-team ended with five wins and seven losses.
Girls' Swimming:
The Centralia-Chehalis swim team's record this year was five and one. Individually, Tessa Mount swam her way to state as part of a relay team with three other girls from Centralia. Liz Isaacson, another Chehalis team member said, "I'm looking forward to next season because we're all coming back and we'll be stronger."
Cross Country:
Many members of the cross country team felt they had an excellent performance at the district meets this year. The girls' team finished with third; one spot from qualifying for state. The boys' team placed a disappointing fifth. On the good side, junior Jessika Neuert ran her way to state with senior Chris Roewe. With 148 contenders in each race, Neuert finished twenty-seventh and Roewe finished eighty-first. "Seniors dominated this year. We ran fast even though we had to run in 3 inches of mud. I wish we were AA. I would have finished a lot better [at state]," said Roewe.
Girls' Soccer:
"The cohesion of this team made this season special and successful. I have never had an entire team ride the bus home from the final game - until this year," said varsity girls' soccer coach Tim Touhey. Varsity ended the season with five wins, four losses, and two ties.
The JV team, coached by Tino Sanchez, had a great season with a record of twelve wins, one loss, and three ties. "It was a great, great season. We were really focused. C-squad was so focused, I'm looking forward to next season," said Sanchez.
The c-squad girls had a winning season, inspite of switching coaches mid-year to coach Brett Ellingson. Abby Richards, a utility player on c-squad said, "We were the first undefeated c-team; we went 11 and 0."
Boys' Golf:
The golf team played excellent this year. Out of their five matches, they won four. Senior Andy Judd said, "Our team was pretty strong this year and we're losing three seniors from varsity, but with Andrew Hunziker and Ben McCullough, outstanding sophomores, and Peter Craig and John Wasemiller, up and coming juniors, the team should be strong again [next year]."
Football:
Varsity football finished the year at six wins and three losses. "We had some trouble in the early season and you could tell be how well we played. After our second loss we pulled together for the Aberdeen game and stayed that way for the rest of the season," said senior varsity player Dave Sund.
