When you receive this error it means that you are not properly connected
to the internet. This problem can be easily resolved by Dialing into the
internet again or dialing in for the first time. If you do not know how
to dial in continue following the directions supplied.
In order to establish if you have the dialer properly setup you need
to double click on the icon on your desktop that refers to your hard drives.
It is labeled "MY COMPUTER" by default. Next double click
on the icon that says "DIAL UP NETWORKING." If you
do not see this folder you will need to install dial up networking from
the Windows 95 CD. For directions on this refer to the document
labeled "How do I set up dial up networking under Windows 95 in the
Frequently Asked Questions
web page.
Now that you are in the "DIAL UP NETWORKING" folder
you should see the icon labeled "MAKE NEW CONNECTION."
If you are lucky you will also see the icon labeled "LOCAL ACCESS."
If you see the icon labeled "LOCAL ACCESS," move down to
step 4. If you do not see the icon labeled "LOCAL ACCESS,"
you need to double click on the icon labeled "MAKE NEW CONNECTION."
After you have double clicked on "make new connection you will be
presented with a "make new connection" wizard. This will guide
you throught the process of setting up your dialer to dial into Local Access.
For directions on how to setup the wizard move to step 5.
If you see the icon marked "LOCAL ACCESS" you need to
RIGHT click on it. After you have RIGHT clicked on it you
will see a pull down table that gives you some options. You need to select
the option that says "CREATE SHORTCUT." After you select
that you will be confronted with a warning screen that states something
to the effect of "Dial up networking cannot create a shortcut here,
would you like it placed on the desktop instead?" Click YES. Please
move down to step 6.
When you go to set up the dialer to connect to the internet you will
need to read the directions that are presented to you. When it asks for
you to label the connection for the computer you will be dialing you need
to type in "Local Access." You then need to check down towards
the bottom of the window and make sure that your modem is selected. The
next step is to type in the phone number of the computer you are dialing.
That phone number is, area code (360), 3305535. No, you do not have to
have a space between the numbers 0 and 5 and you do not need a hyphen either.
After you have typed in the phone number go ahead and click "Next"
and then "Finish." You have successfully set up your dialer move
to step 4.
After you have created the shortcut you need to close the window "dial
up networking" and then close the window "my computer."
You should then see your desktop. On your desktop you will see an icon
labeled "Shortcut to Local Access" if you did the steps in this
outline properly. Now you just need to double click on the icon and it
will pop up a screen that says "Connect to Local Access." You
then will need to have your information sheet that was given to you by
us to refer to your user name and password. Input this information in the
space provided makeing sure that all letters in the password are matched
carefully. After this has all been inputted you just need to click on the
button "connect." This will then dial you in and establish a
connection. Now you can successfully double click on "The Internet"
and you will not receive that error message.
