FAQ - How do I put a counter on my web page

You've worked hard on your World Wide Website and now you'd like to know how many visitors you're getting. Here's how to add a counter to your page that will log every visit.

1. Just enter the following code into your HTML document where you would like the counter to appear:

<img src=http://www.localaccess.com/cgi-shl/counter.exe?-sWEB1+e:\www\Username\default.htm>

2. If your counter is not on your default.htm file, substitute the correct .htm file name where I have put default.htm

3. You will probably do best to cut and paste the code from this document to your html file since one small error will result in the counter not working. (And on most email programs the 1 (number one) and the l (small L) look identical, so it's hard to tell which is which.

4. Also you should know that since the counter is located on the Local Access Web server you may not be able to test it until you have uploaded your page to the server.

5. Sorry, but there is currently no way for you to reset your counter to zero or any other number. This counter CGI is provided as a convenience for you to keep track of your number of visitors. If you want to know the count per day, week, month, etc., you'll need to jot down the present number, then subtract it from the number that appears the next time you check your counter.

6. If you'd like to experiment with different styles of digits you can substitute one of the following where the code now says web1 (Make sure to leave everything else exactly as it is or your counter won't work.).
