Initiation of Children
for children 8 to 15 years (RCIC) For children who are older, a similar process to the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). These children must be actively involved in the process of learning and catechising. This process can take up to two years because they are being introduced to prayer and the many rituals of our community, and often times are preparating for the four sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. The Rite for the children states specifically that they must be fully initiated in this process. This includes the sacrament of Confirmation. These children also need to have a Sponsor to help them along the way, to support them, and introduce them to the many customs and traditions of our faith community. They too, will be welcomed through the Rites of Initiation with the RCIA adults and be received into the church at the Easter Vigil. |
