STUDIO INFORMATION
Instruments Taught: Piano (also Organ and Harp)
Teaching Level: Beginner - Advanced (Age 4 through adult)
Teaching Year: September through June. Breaks will coincide with Chehalis
Schools.
Summer Lessons: Available and encouraged.
Studio Policy: Will be mailed upon request
Teaching Days: Monday through Friday
Lessons: Weekly lessons are a combination of individual instruction and lab (computer theory and playing with midi disks). School age students are provided a combination of small group and individual. Adults are individual only. Group lessons are monthly and provide a creative and fun, social environment which aids in the learning process of music and aids the process of helping children feel comfortable playing in front of others. Some Groups are interest focused (Jazz or organ focused) or general.
Teaching Materials: I use the Robert Pace Method which provides a comprehensive musicianship experience including theory, creativity, transposing, improvising, sight-reading, harmony and ear training. Students receive supplemental music in areas of interest.
Studio Facility: 5'7" Samick Grand Piano, Roland Digital Piano, upright piano, Troubadour VI Harp. In addition there are computer theory games and midi disks.
Opportunities: There is one recital in the Spring, monthly performing opportunities at Chehalis West, and various activities through LCMTA (play-a-thon, adjudications, ribbon festival). Students enjoy coming together for a Christmas cookie decorating party, and if earned, a pizza and ice cream making party.
TEACHER BIOGRAPHY
I am a certified teacher in piano through the National Music Teachers Association. I began lessons at age 8 with the Robert Pace method and continued through college and beyond. I received a Minor in Music (piano) from Linfield College. I have been teaching since Spring 2000, accompanying since I was 11; church organist/pianist since Fall of 1999. I also play for weddings and funerals. I've received special training as a teacher from Robert Pace, as well as in improvisation and playing jazz from author and performer, Forrest Kinney.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I love what I do! I have 2 of my own kids and have taught them. Parents of my students say I am very patient. I enjoy working with kids (and adults). I find that every individual has an innate desire for music. My challenge and joy is to help that desire grow and mature in the way that the individual enjoys. My goal is to create a joyful environment where the student can learn enough that they can continue learning music and enjoying it even if they aren't taking lessons. I strive to help provide this atmosphere via the method used, computer theory games, time to play on the digital piano with midi disks and the general atmosphere of the studio to help in maximizing their potential with music.
