Semester At Sea

Semester At Sea
Introduction

First and foremost I’d have to say that Semester At Sea was by far one of the best things that I’ve ever done in my life. The experiences that I had and the friends that I made are things that I’ll never forget.

Now I know that that may sound a little bit cheesy, but there’s really no other way to put it. And I can do nothing but recommend the program to anyone who wished to learn more about the world and even a little bit more about themselves.

Semester At Sea (SAS) is a floating university campus on which you can enroll in normal classes like you do at any other university. What makes SAS unique is that you also get to travel around the world. This way the classes you are taking can relate their subject material to the countries you are visiting and allow you to get hands on experience.

A lot of students didn’t feel that the classes were as difficult as those at the home campuses, and I’d have to agree. But on a similar note I’d say that I learned way more during my semester with SAS than I did during any other semester that I’ve been in college. I think what SAS does a good job with is taking learning out of the classroom and into the world, although you do still end up spending a good amount of time in a classroom.

Apart from the educational aspect of SAS there is the social aspect. I made some really great friends during the course of my voyage that I’m sure I’ll be staying in touch with for a long time to come. Living so close together with over 630+ students for 100 days forces you to really get to know people.

do. We had a bar on board, a swimming pool, a basketball and volleyball court, a weight room, a theater, you name it we had it. It was great.

And they also had many social functions that you could participate in. For example we had Sea Olympics, an Ambassadors Ball, and many different sports tournaments. All in all I don’t think I was ever bored.
