Since I went to bed at 8 in the morning my ambitious plans of getting up early were shot to hell. Actually I did get up a few times to try to make a go of it, but after consulting with my hangover I decided the smartest thing to do was sleep some more. No harm in that. But I did get up by noon and have lunch and then I was ready to go. Not bad for only 4 hours of sleep.

The night before Britta and Theresa had invited me to go on an orphanage visit with them so I decided to go. The cool thing was that since the good Doctor John Crocker couldn’t go I got to go in his spot. So it cost me nothing for the bus ride over and all!

It was fun to play with all the kids there and give them gifs and toys. The kids seemed really open and friendly and they seemed to like me and my cowboy hat especially! We played with them for a hell of a long time and then I got hungry and went to grab a bite to eat. I don’t know what exactly it was that I ate, but it made me feel really sick for a few hours after that. But I overcame. Then we sang some songs with the kids and said our goodbyes. It was really a nice afternoon.

Daniel, Britta, Theresa, and I decided not to take the bus back and do a little bit of walking. We walked by the Polar Café (where we’d hung out the night before) and I heard Albert (the guy that worked there) yell out my name and invite us all in for happy hour. And I’ve never been good at saying no to that kind of invitation.

We all had a few beers there and then decided to go to this huge mall in the city and do some shopping for some stuff we needed. We told Albert that we’d be back later that night to do some more partying.

The mall that we went to was really huge. The building itself was 64 stories high, but the mall was only located on the first 4 levels. I bought 16 Video CD movies for $20. Many of them were movies that weren’t available yet to rent in the USA and some were movies that were still in the movie theater. I also bought 5 Hawaii type shirts for $20. We’ll see how they hold up.

The only reason you can buy movies and such for so cheap in Malaysia is because they don’t really have all that much respect for intellectual copyright laws. It’s good for the consumer, but the big corporations can’t make their money.

So after we finished our shopping spree we had some food to eat in the mall that tasted great. It was all traditional Malay food that I just loved. After dinner we dropped off our stuff at the ship and took an hour nap before we went back out to the Polar Café again.

Albert and Michael (the owner) were both happy to see us again so we all had a few beers with them. Then I went out to try to find a phone to call home with, but was unsuccessful. When I got back to the bar Albert introduced me to his friend Robert. Robert saw that I was having difficulties with calling home so he let me use his cell phone to call. So that worked out great, and he was so nice that he wouldn’t even accept payment.

After a few more rounds Robert invited Daniel and myself to go out fishing with him the next day. We of course accepted gratefully and soon after went back to the ship to get some rest for the day ahead.
